COURSE OVERVIEW

This course aims to enhance drivers’ knowledge and skills for driving safely liquid tankers within the Sultanate of Oman.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the training the candidate will be able to:

Explain various types of tanks and tankers
Describe principles and procedures for loading and unloading tankers
Describe the forces acting on a tanker that could lead to rollover
Describe tanker requirements and the various hazardous materials that can be carried and their risk
Explain what the correct actions are to be taken in an emergency

Compartments and baffles
Tank fittings, foot valves, internal valves, emergency valves
Loading and Unloading methods
Pressurised and Non-pressurised tankers
Surge, Slosh, COG
Harsh braking and acceleration
Centrifugal force
Tank design and colour coding
Liquid movement
Hazardous material classes
SHOC/TREM cards for dangerous goods Procedures and plates for dangerous goods
Emergency equipment
Actions are to be taken in an emergency
